Connecting Theory and Practice
Fifteen of our students have just arrived in Cape Town for the BSN Study Tour South Africa 2024. The group of MBA and DBA candidates from the Netherlands kicked off their tour with a two-day visit to Club Mykonos, Langebaan, where the Weskus Conversations event is hosted. This initiative by the West Coast District Municipality brings together key decision-makers to tackle pressing issues such as ethical behaviour, governance, and economic sustainability. From October 29 to November 6, these students will integrate advanced academic theories with practical solutions, engaging directly with real-world issues.
This visit serves as a platform for the students to apply BSN’s action learning principles. The action learning method involves students directly in solving real-time challenges presented by the five local municipalities, offering actionable insights and solutions.
This tour is an invaluable opportunity for our students to see first-hand the types of challenges they study about and to apply their knowledge in real-world settings,
said Juanita Bouwer, Director: International, based at BSN’s support office in Cape Town. She emphasised the importance of understanding the municipalities’ operations and the integration challenges within the district, which will guide future educational collaborations.
The students are presenting their findings on economic development challenges, contributing fresh insights that integrate both European and South African perspectives. This exchange is intended to produce practical solutions for the broader West Coast region.
Over the next few days, the group will also visit the South African National Space Agency and Shoprite Holdings, Africa’s largest supermarket retailer. These visits are designed to broaden the students’ understanding of South African industry and innovation, enriching their overall educational experience.
