"My research enabled me to ask critical questions on behalf of my company which made my action learning project even more valuable" - Tim Gruppe, International MBA student (N51)shares his HRM Action Learning Project success with Business School Netherlands.

Content 2:

"Because I’m working in an international company, Promasys Upbound International, it was logical for me to follow an International MBA. Prior to starting my MBA, I completed a BA degree, I learned a lot in those 4 years, but for me it was always a challenge to apply theoretical knowledge to daily practice. Since I’m busy with the International MBA I noticed that I undertake a lot more within my company. I know now, based on action learning that “you just have to do it”. Mistakes go along the way. As long as you evaluate and reflect on those mistakes you will grow. My self confidence in doing business has grown significantly since I started the International MBA with Business School Netherlands.

The subject of my HRM Action Learning Project was Introducing Performance Management. The literature research indicated that a lot of benefit can be gained from this concept. But that didn’t proof that the concept would work within my own company. There the action learning concept comes in to play. I conducted thorough research and had to ask critical questions to my colleagues. After analyzing what needed to be done to make my concept work, I made an implementation plan.

My research enabled me to ask critical questions on behalf of my company which made my action learning project even more valuable. We are now going to invest in a performance management system and so my action learning project comes to life.

"Our world needs educated, competent and skilled people seeking unity although we have differences and as educators we should stand together to make this happen. Billions are invested in infrastructure development to link the people of our world and to try to improve how we live together on this earth.
The first quarter of 2010 has been one of creating a strong thrust and stronger Business School Netherlands messages than ever by the BSN Nigeria team. The passionate guidance and mission directed leadership of Mr. Lere Baale (CEO of BSN Nigeria) has resulted in three important events on 20 and 22 March 2010.

Content 2:

Business School Netherlands - Nigeria invited Mrs. Juanita Bouwer (Head; English Programmes and BSN Nigeria director), Mrs. Yvette Baker (Finance and Registry Administrator) and Prof. Strydom (Director of Business School Netherlands and BSN Nigeria) to Nigeria for these days.

The hot prospect list from which this set was formed was a good 37 at the time of the writing this report. The writer, Prof. Pierre Strydom, addressed the set on Saturday morning with an address titled: “a Master is more than a Manager”.

On Saturday afternoon the board of directors of BSN Nigeria met as per the schedule.
A question being raised in Action Learning circles and within Business School Netherlands, and perhaps burning in the hearts of most good MBA graduates is: “Is there a mission for me beyond my MBA – what should I now do with what I was so busy with for such a long time?”

Content 2:

"With the Action Learning MBA there is so much one can do.Your level of thinking is broadened. As Prof Strydom puts it; you are able to ask the right questions.
The abbreviated review of key notes addressed during the launch of the Alumni Association of Business School Netherlands - Nigeria on 21 March 2010, by Prof PF Strydom.

A question being raised in action learning circles and within Business School Netherlands, and perhaps burning in the hearts of most good MBA graduates is: “Is there a mission, a calling for me beyond my MBA – what should I now do with what I was so busy with for such a long time?”

In the reflection on the MBA road completed Prof Strydom continued to confimr the knowledge the graduates have gained during their MBA study with Business School Netherlands, not only theorectical knowledge, but also practical knowledge. True Action Learning as a problem/ issue/ challenge/project which were worked on within groups by mainly asking questions before trying to find the best answers.
Comparing the road to a pendulum Prof Strydom made the Action Learning aspect of the MBA programme even more clear: on the one side the Action and the other the Learning aspects.

Continuing on the pendulum comparison Prof Strydom spoke to the members of the Alumni Association of the pendulum in their minds, as it is his firm belief that they have been prepared for a task to coach within their organizations the action learning way.
Prof Strydom closed the speech with saying that:" With the same regularity ensure that portfolios of evidence is built of the learning, capture the new knowledge as knowledge capital, build teams, build leaders, build a learning attitude ---- build a learning organization!!"

Business School Netherlands faculty and graduates meet with students from George Washington University as part of an elective programme on teams and leadership.

Content 2:

Prof. Michael Marquardt and a group of eleven master's and doctoral students from George Washington University visited South Africa as part of an elective programme on teams and leadership.
Business School Netherlands' faculty and graduates were invited by Business School Netherlands South Africa Chairman Dr Billy Coop to participate in two panel discussions which were held at Ruslamere Guest House in Durbanville, Cape Town on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd April.
Business School Netherlands' faculty included Professor Pierre Strydom, Dr Billy Coop, Dr Herman van Niekerk and Dr Lee Kingma (also a Business School Netherlands MBA graduate), and MBA graduates Terryl Underwood, Hamid Khan, Craig Nel and Bartley Joseph.

Following introductions the panel members were asked some really tough questions by the George Washington University students, ranging from recommendations for ensuring the success of virtual teams, personal leadership experiences and team dynamic issues, Green issues and corporate social responsibility, future leadership challenges amongst others, and panel members were often forced to "dig deep" in order to answer these questions.

However, both panels provided valuable feedback to the George Washington University students, and the panel members were warmly congratulated at the end of each of the panel sessions. Panel members were also presented with a copy of a book entitled Global Teams, which is written by Dr Marquardt and Lisa Horvath.

After a week of lectures of Marketing Management, Agricultural Finance and Strategic Management, the students of the first NBC/BSN group enjoyed a field trip through the Netherlands.

The weather even played its role, true winter; it was snowing when the group departed early in the morning for their first ever cheese making experience.

On the farm they were welcomed by the lady of the house, she showed the group the process of cheese making, and made the group make their very own Dutch cheese too! Afterwards, they got to take their cheese home.

After a guided tour of the farm, the dairy cows and the high-tech machines used these days for the milking process of 'the ladies', the group headed for Amsterdam.

In Amsterdam the group enjoyed a canal boat trip, past the replica of the VOC ship The Amsterdam and many other historical monuments in the capital.

All in all, as the pictures (follow link to download) will show, this was a successfull field trip and a successful week all together. "Say Cheeeeeese! "

Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) students attend first International MBA workshop in Cape Town, South Africa.

The first set of students from the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) had to make a change in direction as the ashcloud above Europe caused the first conference of the International MBA to divert from Buren, The Netherlands to Cape Town, South Africa.

Due to the country of residence of some of the NFP students, diverting was not an easy task. Some had to fly to another country to obtain their visa to enter the Republic of South Africa, whilst others had to rely on the courier services to transport their passports to and from other countries just to get the correct visa.

Thanks to the great logistical team of Business School Netherlands all 4 NFP students arrived safe and sound in Cape Town on Sunday 6 June 2010 to join their fellow International MBA students from all over the world for their first face to face workshop.

Ms. Iza Gigauri (Project Manager at Alliance for People with Dissabilities) is one of the NFP students, from Georgia she shares her International MBA experiences with us:

"I am very proud of having been granted the Netherlands Fellowship Award for studying at Business School Netherlands. I feel more responsibility as I am the first from Georgia who is part of the International MBA Programme of Business School Netherlands. I am so thankful to Nuffic ( Dutch Government funded Netherlands Fellowship Programme ) for giving me this opportunity. To study at Business School Netherlands means for me not only wide knowledge but also many new ideas.
The first workshop of the International MBA in Cape Town was highly interesting. I have learnt more about the particular subjects ( Human Resources Management, Marketing Management and Operations Management and Interpersonal Skills). The intelligent and kind professors have answers for all our questions.
Traveling to Cape Town was another broad experience for me. It is always amazing to meet new people, and learn more about other cultures. I have enriched not only my knowledge in business but also expand my horizons.
Now I am ready to begin the next phase of this International MBA study."

Mr. Martin Gasira (Manager Trade Info Centres at the Rwanda Development Board) also shares his learning experiences during the first international workshop with us :

"So far I have found a very wonderful MBA which makes you really customize the acquired knowledge to the working environment. I am very pleased with this MBA Programme offered by Business School Netherlands. Am as well pleased by Business School Netherlands' staff who is very responsive to our various needs in accomplishing this endeavor. I enjoyed the International workshop in Cape town from the good professors to the hospitality of everybody who ensured the success of the workshop."

The next international workshop of the International MBA of this set will take place in Buren, the Netherlands, in January 2011.
